HIGH SPEED AUTOMATIC DOORS

The latest technology for high speed doors for Industrial Application is receiving wide acceptance in South Africa

The high speed doors capable of opening (and closing) five times faster than conventional or sliding doors offer many additional benefits to those currently in use.

The comprehensive range of high speed doors are available in horizontal and vertical opening modules, designed to suit individual site requirement. The patented design has been specifically developed to ensure low maintenance costs combined with a high level of reliability, resulting in the doors being ideally suited to areas of high traffic.

Bernos Model Pt20

Bernos Model Pt20

Doors left open

Slow, heavy doors are not normally closed. It simply takes too long and requires supervision and effort. This. however, leads to valuable energy being lost. Automatic high speed doors open and close rapidly after every passing vehicle, which saves energy and cost.

The latest innovation is to open sideways or horizontally. It is faster to open two sliding doors horizontally, where the opening distance is shortened, than to open vertically in an upward motion over a long distance.

Also, in the case of horizontal opening, the traffic passing through can proceed immediately without hitting or striking the door as it travels up, as the case of the vertical door.

The two overlapping curtain leaves to close the door opening are made up of special soft plastic PVC material, acrylic grey in colour which can fold up on either side of the doorway and will not crystalise or become brittle under extreme conditions or temperature.

Should the passing through traffic accidentally run into the two door curtain leaves, these will absorb the `knock' and the flexible door leaves fold out of the way, i.e. more forgiving. Should a tear in the material occur this can be patched up by gluing with an adhesive intended for soft PVC.

Should the high speed doors close on passing traffic, i.e. forklift, tow tractor, power pallet truck or pedestrians, the soft PVC flexible leaves will envelope. fold over or around without causing any damage or bodily harm. In otherwords there is no need for pressure sensitive switches or automatic edges. etc.

Bernos Model Pt25

With a power failure or any other emergency situation. the door curtain leaves can be opened by hand.

Airlock Concept

Both the PT 20 and the PT-25 day door models have two curtain leaves which open and close and overlap the full width of the door opening. affording a 140mm airlock between the leaves. When the conventional manual sliding iso-panel night door is closed, this forms another airlock between it and the high speed day opening door.

Two types of doors available from BERNOS

(1) Horizontal opening: Chiller and ambient doors. The Model Pt-20 - for low temperature, dust, noise, drafts or other disturbing/contamination atmospheric conditions control, with its fast opening and good sealing properties, is ideally suitable for high volume vehicle traffic. A practical Solution to the problem of frequent traffic is to install the Pt-20 and/or a conventional door in the same opening. This model needs no safety edge. it is fast and draught proof, it can be used for both internal and external openings, it is reliable and needs minimal maintenance in fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, food processing and air-conditioned areas.

The Model Pt-25 is for tough freezing conditions within deep-freeze rooms. Again this is normally used in conjunction with conventional deep-freeze room night doors and is particularly effective with high volumes of traffic. It provides an excellent heat barrier. This model improves the environment in deep-freeze rooms, it can withstand high pressure differentials, it has two full width door curtain leaves without thermal bridges. i.e. airlock, it saves energy and is durable and reliable.

The drive unit is equipped with a heating coil and a heater in the trolley. The lower corners are provided with heater plates, which prevent freezing of the door curtain leaves and are kept ice-free and so needs no de-icing.

(2) Vertical opening door from Nergeco

Nergeco has developed individual Automatic High Speed Traffic Doors to suit every application. The principle of the Nergeco Roll-up or Fold-up door is unique.

  • The Nergeco concept is a flexible curtain, supported throughout its surface area by horizontal rods which are fully inserted within it.

  • These rods push the curtain from inside and hold it firmly into the side guides. The uniform positioning of these horizontal rods, from the top to the bottom, snake the Nergeco curtain seal better at both high level and floor level

  • This technical innovation gives two additional major benefits:

    • The force of the wind meets with a resistance spread over the full surface of the opening - the Nergeco curtain resists wind pressure more effectively.

    • By design. the greatly reduced weight at the bottom of the Nergeco curtain makes it the safest available. This patented soft sprung, bottom base is extremely safe. and self re-locating. Should a forklift impact the door, no damage is caused.

  • Its flexibility affords damage limitation and personal safety.
